English teacher /copywriter / Bilingual
Full time position, M-F for an individual with a college degree in teaching, English or related field with ESL and writing experience. We are located in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx, convenient to public transportation.
Felix Storch, Inc. (known more commonly as our trademark, SUMMIT Appliances) is a family owned manufacturer and distributor of major appliances for the household, commercial, medical and hospitality markets. We recently received a NYC grant to teach our manufacturing personnel English (the workforce is primarily Spanish speaking) to allow them to advance into more complex, work-order based assembly projects.
The teaching position requires about 20 hours per week. To create a full time position, we would prefer an individual with strong writing skills who can assist our marketing team create website and catalog content during the remaining time. The teaching portion of the position will consist of development of an ESL curriculum, and teaching a number of small classes (4 to6 individuals) English in hour long modules, about 3 times per week. We envision about 6 to8 classes, so the work will be spread over a Monday – Friday schedule during normal business hours.
The writing portion of the job will be to create product descriptions, and copy for our websites and catalogs. No specific appliance industry experience is needed, but experience in writing (preferably copy-writing) would be helpful. Writing tasks will include press releases, sell sheets, web content, and internal knowledge base material. Longer writing projects will include content on food storage useful to our customers and consumers.
Job requirements: Applicants must have a 4 year college degree from an accredited institution, and a teaching certificate, or ESL certification or a Master’s degree. Experience in both ESL instruction and copy writing would be helpful.
Our company is a 40 year old family business. Salaries will be commensurate with experience, and we offer a 401K plan with a company match and health benefits. The work week is Monday thru Friday.
