We had no idea what to expect when we released AwayFind to the world, and we’re continually fascinated by some of the creative ways people use it. Here are some ideas how others have really taken advantage of AwayFind’s privacy, routing, and SMS features.
Almost as many people who uses our auto responders use AwayFind in their email signature. It allows them to hide their cell phone number and confidently step away from their email. It’s as simple as adding the following to your email signature:
“I check email a couple times daily; to reach me sooner, click here: https://awayfind.com/yourname”
A lot of people have written saying they don’t like giving out office or cell phone numbers because they’re either road warriors or don’t want to be bothered:
“Need to reach me fast: https://awayfind.com/yourname”
Running out the door and want to get a bite to eat with a Twitter friend? Have an important question and planning to step away from the computer? Rather than give out your cell phone over the public web, use AwayFind to hide it:
“In Boston with an hour to spare, anyone want to get lunch? Reach me at https://awayfind.com/yourname”
Instead of posting phone numbers or email addresses, some people post their AwayFind contact form. With AwayFind categories, some messages can go to your cell phone, and some to your email… depending on how you configure it. But no one will know your information.
AwayFind’s contact form will not just gather messages from visitors but categorize them, route them to the right people, filter spam, and validate their information. And for real emergencies, you can get SMS messages.
Add the following to your voicemail greeting, “If this is an emergency, please visit awayfind.com/mypage and I’ll get back to you much sooner.” This provides all the same benefits of using AwayFind with email (see above).
We’ve seen people post controversial and political questions. Needless to say that will keep many people from getting in touch, people who you perhaps didn’t want to hear from.
“What’s the last name of the presidential candidate that you supported for the 2008 United States elections?”
If you don’t want strangers to contact you via AwayFind, you can make the question tough by either requiring a lot of time for someone to figure out…or by making it something that only a close friend would know the answer to.
